I am always looking for natural remedies for my pug, because I believe they are the best for him.

And if there is a natural cure out there, that will help him without much fuss, I wanna know about it.

Also, I don’t think it’s necessary to run to the vet for every single thing, especially when the cure may be sitting right in your kitchen cupboard.

Open Wound Relief for Your Furry Friend:

Honey is a great all natural remedy for an open wound!

Among it’s many benefits, honey is know to be anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory.  And, it promotes wound “healing.”

Veterinarians will spread it directly on an open wound, and then put a bandage over it.  It works like “neosporin” for the skin.

When applied to a wound, Manuka honey has been shown to kill more than 250 strains of bacteria, including:

  • MRSA (methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus)
  • MSSA (methicillin sensitive Staphylococcus aureus)
  • VRE (vancomycin-resistant enterococci)
  • Helicobacter pylori (which can cause stomach ulcers)

However, you don’t want to just go to the store and buy the good old honey in the “bear jar.”

You need to buy the preferred wound kicking honey – Manuka Honey

What is Manuka Honey?

Manuka honey is known to have the most potent anti-microbial properties.

Manuka honey is created by bees who feed on the nectar of the Manuka flower, found in New Zealand.

Manuka has an extra ingredient with antimicrobial qualities, called the Unique Manuka Factor (UMF).

It’s “unique” because, the truth is, no one has yet been able to discover the unique substance involved that gives it its extraordinary antibacterial activity!

Honey releases hydrogen peroxide through an enzymatic process, which explains its general antiseptic qualities, but Active Manuka honey contains “something else” that makes it far superior to other types of honey when it comes to killing off bacteria.

The level of UMF can vary between batches, so each batch is ranked and priced accordingly. The higher the concentration of UMF, the darker, thicker, and more expensive it is.

A rating of UMF 10 or higher is recommended for medicinal use.

For example, This is UMF 10 honey Manuka Health MGO 400+ Manuka Honey (20+), 250gm – 100% Pure New Zealand Honey“.

But be sure to do the research and make sure you are getting PURE, excellent quality organic Manuka Honey before putting any honey whatsoever on your dog’s open wounds.

And let me know what you think about natural pet care!  Please share your remedies and pics below!

Love your pups!
