QUESTION: Is it ethical to buy a puppy pug and what are the best crosses? My partner and I are quite fond of their appearance however we know that pugs are amongst the most inbred dogs in the UK. They suffer from a variety of health problems etc. Is there any way to know that a puppy pug has been responsibly bred/will have a higher chance of leading a happy and healthy life?Otherwise do you know of any ‘safer’ pug-crosses which lengthen the face reduce the health issues?
ANSWER: Unfortunately there’s not much way of knowing if the puppy will be healthy or not as they usually all have problems of one kind or another which is sad. EVEN if the puppy is Kennel Club Registered that does NOT mean they won’t have health problems so don’t let that OR a pedigree certificate fool you.The best mixes are probably Jack Russell X Pug because the mix of Jack Russell lengthens the muzzle which in turn makes it a whole lot easier for the dog to breathe.ALSO ALL mixed breed dogs have a lot less health problems that a purebred/pedigree :-The Jack Russell X Pug mix goes by the names of: JUG.
