QUESTION: What are the exercise requirements for a pug dog? I’m thinking about getting a pug. I have heard they need to be walked less and less slower than other breeds and that you shouldn’t run with them because they can have breathing issues. Does anyone know about caring for this breed?
ANSWER: Unfortunately Pugs are bred with severe design faults which make everyday breathing difficult and the kind of breathing required to bound around joyfully pretty much impossible. They would love to have more exercise than they get but just like an elderly person they cannot physically cope with it.So cute as they may look I would urge you not to support this practice of intentionally breeding disabled animals. You will probably get more joy – and many more years of life – from a normally proportioned dog that can move and breathe freely.
