Why do pugs lower their heads when you go to pet them?

QUESTION: My pug just turned two and I’ve had her ever since she was eight weeks old. She is very sweet and LOVES to give kisses! She is for the most part a very well behaved puggy. But one thing always bothered me….. Everytime I go to pet her she always lowers her head. Now I’ve never hit her or even been the least bit hostile twords her so it makes me wonder if it’s something I’m doing or if it’s just a dog thing?

ANSWER: Lots of dogs do that. Try approaching from below start petting her neck, chin and work around to the top. I think lowering the head means submission in the dog world.
